Ok, so obviously I have been gone for a long time. My bad, life gets a little crazy at times. I am now hoping to start this back up and do a monthly review. I am also going to cover more than just rum, but rum will be the main one. If you have a suggestion that you want me to review, just let me know. If it is available in my area, I will acquire it and review away.
But now onto the review:
While at the liqueur store, I happened across this package of Bacardi. It is a limited edition 150th anniversary bottle of their silver rum. The abv is 44.5 % which is about a normal rum. This is also one of the first silver rums I have tried. All in all, the rum is great. Has a bit of a burn, but wonderfully smooth. I of course mixed it with cola, and was amazed how great the mix tasted.
Overall, this rum was fantastic and would recommend it. The price here in Ohio was around $20 for the bottle which is not terribly bad for rum.
The next rum that will be coming up will be Captain Morgan Black.

Time for Jamaican!
A couple of weeks ago, I helped a friend of mine move to his own apartment. As a thank you for the help, my friend bought me some rum. The rum he provided me was the Appleton Estate V/X Jamaica Rum.
Now onto the rum.
The first thing I did was to savor the smell. The smell was similar to Captain but a little sweeter. After the first sip, it seemed a bit smoother. Once the burn finished, I downed a shot, the burn was smoother, yet it still burned.
With the shot out of the way, I then moved onto my favorite drink: Rum and Cola.
This rum was perfect with the cola. It tasted almost like a combination of Jack Daniels and Captain Morgan with cola.
Overall, very pleased with this rum. I would recommend it.

Release the Kraken!!!
Tonight, I cracked open my bottle of Kraken Rum. This rum is a black spiced rum that "will put a beast in your belly" as their tagline says. After opening the bottle, I first took in the smell. The first part that hit me was the higher alcohol content. (The Kraken is 94 proof.) After savoring the smell, I then poured about a shot and a half in a cup. Smelled some more to know what I was getting into and then took a sip. The taste was good and the burn was even better. After that sip, I then took another whiff, breathed deeply, and downed the shot. The Kraken burned all the way down and is still burning a bit. Personally, I love rum and cola, so this was the next step. I added about a shot of Kraken to about 12 oz of cola. Kraken and cola is great. The Kraken helps enhance the cola, then towards the end the alcohol hits you.
All in all, The Kraken is a great rum and I would recommend it to any rum enthusiast.
The next question is what should my next rum be?

Welcome and stay tuned
This is a brand new blog that I am starting. Starting in the next month or so, I will be purchasing some rum and detailing the rum here. What drinks does the rum go with? What kind of recipes can be made with this rum? These are just some of the base questions that will be answered here. Stay tuned for more.
